Road, Transport and Highway Minister, Shri Nitin Gadkari informed Lok Sabha that the Government of India has notified the Compensation to Victims of Hit and Run Motor Accidents Scheme, 2022. It provides for increased compensation to victims of hit-and-run accidents, Rs. 50,000 (in case of grievous injury) and Rs. 2,00,000 (in case of death) including detailed procedure for availing this compensation.
He replied to an Unstarred Question related to any provision to pay compensation to the road accident victims of hit-and-run cases.
The Minister further stated that the amount disbursed as compensation to the accident victims of the hit-and-run cases is 12 Crore approximately.
