The Kerala Govt informed the High Court of Kerala that it is willing to pay Rs 50 crore to KSRTC to enable the ailing corporation to pay the salaries of employees
The submission before a division bench led by Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar was during the hearing on an appeal filed by the government challenging a single bench’s directive to pay Rs 103 crore to pay salaries due to employees in view of Onam.
Responding to the government’s submission, KSRTC’s counsel submitted that the corporation only has Rs 15 crore with it & that Rs 50 crore is not enough to pay even one month’s salaries whereas salaries for two months are pending.
After considering the submission, the court directed that one-third of the salary arrears be paid now & asked the government to inform whether the remaining portion can be distributed in the form of coupons that can be used at public distribution chains such as Supplyco. Asking the government to respond about this, the court has postponed the case.
