A 38-year-old lawyer, Pravin Dongre Dige, was kidnapped from the Borivali metropolitan magistrate court in Mumbai by his clients on Tuesday evening. The clients were allegedly upset with Dige for not providing them with ration cards as promised.
Fortunately, the police were able to rescue Dige within three hours of the kidnapping and arrested five people, including two women.
The Kidnapping
According to advocate Amit Mishra from Borivali magistrate court, Dige was standing outside the court around 6 pm when two women approached him. They then forced him into an auto-rickshaw and drove away.
Mishra immediately alerted the police, who launched a search for Dige. They were able to track down the auto-rickshaw and rescue Dige within a few hours.
The Clients' Motive
The clients, who have not been named, were reportedly angry with Dige for not being able to secure them ration cards. Ration cards are essential documents in India that entitle the holder to subsidized food and other essential goods.
It is unclear whether Dige had promised the clients that he would be able to get them ration cards or if this was a misunderstanding.
The Arrests
The police have arrested five people in connection with the kidnapping, including the two women who allegedly abducted Dige. The other three suspects are believed to be the clients who hired the women.
All five suspects are now being questioned by the police.
Reactions to the Kidnapping
The kidnapping of Dige has sent shockwaves through the legal community in Mumbai. Many lawyers have expressed their outrage at the incident and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
"This is a shocking and outrageous incident," said advocate Rahul Patil. "It is an attack on the rule of law and cannot be tolerated."
Patil also called for increased security at courthouses to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
The kidnapping of Dige is a reminder of the dangers that lawyers face in their line of work. It is important to ensure that lawyers are able to work safely and without fear of intimidation or violence.
