On Tuesday, the Supreme Court agreed to take up a petition filed by known wrestlers alleging sexual harassment by Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
A bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud agreed to hear the petition seeking registration of FIR against the President for taking advantage of women wrestlers remarking that the allegations are of serious nature and require consideration by the Top Court.
"There are serious allegations made in the petition by wrestlers who have represented India and sexual harassment meted out to them. The matter requires consideration by this court," the Court said.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal appeared for the petitioners and apprised the bench that the survivors include a minor as well.
He argued that committee report in the matter hasn't yet been made public and FIR has not been registered yet as well.
The court after examining the material on record agreed to list the matter. Notice has also been issued to the NCT Delhi.
