The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bangalore (Karnataka) has sentenced Shri M.H.Thangal, then Deputy Superintending Horticulturist, Archaeological Survey of India, Mysore to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.3,50,00,000/- and Smt. Machamthui Charenamei (wife of Sh.M.H.Thangal) to undergo three years Simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs.1,00,000/- for possessing Disproportionate Assets.
CBI had registered the case on 13.08.2019 against the accused and filed a chargesheet on the allegations of possessing Disproportionate Assets that he enriched himself illicitly during the period from January,2012 to August, 2019 & found in possession of assets to the tune of Rs.3,11,94,005/-(approx) which were disproportionate to his known sources of income by 103%.
After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against the said public servant and his wife. The Trial Court found both the accused guilty and convicted them.
