Having come under fire over repeated examination paper leaks, the Gujarat Govt has drafted a stringent bill to deal with those using unfair means in public examinations. The bill will be tabled in the budget session of the assembly, which begins later this month.
The State Govt handed a copy of the draft of The Gujarat Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2023, to the assembly secretariat on Thursday. According to the draft bill, the assets of those who make wrongful gains by unfair means will be attached & examinees convicted under the law will be debarred from taking any public examination for 2 years.
The bill proposes imprisonment of up to three years for examinees who indulge in unfair means. Those who indulge in or abet actions that contravene provisions of the proposed law, will have to serve a jail term up to 10 years & pay a fine up to Rs 1 crore. If the examination authorities conspire with the accused to violate the proposed law, they will have to undergo imprisonment up to ten years & pay a fine not less than Rs 1 crore.
