Law Minister Kiren Rijiju informed Rajya Sabha that there is a total vacancy of 5768 judicial officers in the District and Subordinate Courts against the sanctioned and working strength of 25077 and 19309 judicial officers respectively.
He replied to an Unstarred Question related to total number of vacancy of Judges in District Courts.
He mentioned that the selection and appointment of judges in the District Courts is the responsibility of the High Courts and State Governments concerned.
Uttar Pradesh is having highest number of vacancies i.e. 1173.
