Three Judges Bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice JB Pardiwala in the case of Manikant v. Regonda Srinivas & Ors has stayed the operation of the judgment and order passed by the Division Bench of the Telangana High Court dated 30 December 2022 in Contempt Case against chairman and managing director of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) for punishment of 2 months Jail in criminal contempt.
The Bench observed that “there shall be a stay of the operation of the judgment and order of the Division Bench of the High Court of Telangana dated 30 December 2022 in Contempt Case No 776 of 2022.”.
Telangana High Court had ordered the Chief of NTPC to suffer simple imprisonment for a period of two months and to pay a fine of Rs.2,000/- (Rupees Two Thousand only) each, within four weeks.
The Court listed the matter on 30 January 2023 for next hearing.
