Seven fake Lawyers practising for 11 yrs: Bar Council

AP Bar Council to be bifurcated in November

The Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh has identified that 7 people with fake law degrees have been practising in the sessions court for the last 11 years. A complaint was lodged with the police against the fake advocates.

According to the complaint, 15 persons with fake law degrees had enrolled as lawyers in the bar council. Of them, 8 have surrendered their enrolment.

AP Bar Council secretary B Padmalatha lodged a complaint with Tullur police stating that the council had identified 15 fake advocates & eight of them had voluntarily withdrawn their names as advocates.

The complaint was filed on Jan 11 seeking criminal action against the remaining 7. 2 separate cases have been registered. The accused are identified as Chintakayala Murthy practicing in Tuni, D Chamundeshwari at Tenali, CD Purushottam at Ananthapu and D Ratnakumari in Andhra Pradesh High Court.

In the complaint, the Bar Council said that when their educational qualification documents were sent to the colleges & universities, they were found to be fake.

Also, Nikki Nageswara Rao, Macharla Venkateswara Rao in Sattenapalli, & Kothuri Srinivas Varaprasad in Kakinada have also been named as the accused.

Ganta Rama Rao, Bar Council chairman told TOI that as part of regular verification once every five years, certificates were filed by practising advocates & it was when the certificates of the accused were found to be fake. The council immediately delisted them & a complaint was lodged with the police.

There is a further inquiry to find out whether any more people have committed a similar offence.

Letters were written to the respective universities & colleges to verify the certificates. At the time of registration as advocates, they have submitted certificates to the Bar Council stating that they have completed courses at Andhra University, Bodh Gaya University in Bihar, Dibrugarh University in Assam, & LLM in a university in Uttar Pradesh. The Bar Council sent them to the respective universities & got the reply that none of them had done the course at their institutions.

On the other hand, the Tullur police also asked the respective universities to verify the certificates a week ago & are waiting for their reply.

Tullur DSP V Poturaju said that they have written letters to the registrars of the respective universities to officially inform them whether the accused have studied in the universities.

The DSP said, “We have registered cases against the accused under the sections related to fraud, forgery, conspiracy, creation of fake documents, etc. We inquired a few people & recorded the statements. Further details could be known after the arrests. We are going through a procedure to arrest the accused".
