COVID-19: India did the best so far, says HC Judge

 

On Tuesday, a Gujarat High Court Judge made a passing remark that India did the best so far as Covid-19 management is concerned.

 

 

This happened when a lawyer turned up before a vacation bench of Justice Ashutosh Shastri and Justice Mauna Bhatt & requested for permission to file & circulate a public interest litigation. After a brief discussion, Justice Shastri asked the lawyer to file the PIL when the HC reopened next week.

The lawyer insisted on urgent filing & circulation of his PIL & cited 3 major events that are going on in the city of Ahmedabad – the Pramukh Swami Maharaj Shatabdi Mahotsav, the Kankaria Lake Carnival & the Riverfront Flower Festival.

The PIL contends that when PM Narendra Modi discussed about cross-border travel guidelines in wake of the spread of Omicron BF 7 variant in his review meeting, & when the Union health minister wrote to the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to abide by the Covid protocol so far as his Bharat Jodo Yatra is concerned, the High Court may direct the local authorities to issue regular Covid advisories to restrict the spread of BF 7 variant.

The petitioner is also demanding a review by the State Govt of medical infrastructure, & implementation of Covid guidelines as well as expeditiously giving booster doses to those who are still not covered by the third shot.While Justice Shastri refused the permission to file & circulate the PIL during the vacation & asked the lawyer to do it on the day of the reopening of the court, Justice Bhatt commented, “India did the best so far as the Covid is concerned.”
