On Wednesday, traffic remained chock-a-block in Kaiserbagh and adjoining areas due to protest by lawyers near the health directorate over police inaction in a case of road accident that claimed the life of an advocate.
The advocate Shailendra Awasthi (45), a resident of Wazirganj, suffered critical injuries when he was knocked down by a speeding vehicle on Sitapur road on Nov 3. He was under treatment since then & succumbed to injuries on Tuesday night.
The lawyers alleged that the police have taken no action in the case despite an FIR lodged by the victim’s family. Demanding action against the cops for negligence & Rs 50 lakh compensation for the deceased’s family, lawyers blocked the road by keeping the body in the middle of the road at around 1.30 pm leading to a huge jam. Besides commuters, students returning home after school got stuck in the jam for almost two hours. Many ambulances heading towards Chowk from Hazratganj also remained stuck in the traffic. The blockade was removed after senior police officials assured speedy action in the case. SHO, Aliganj, Nagesh Upadhyay said “We are scanning cameras to trace the vehicle.”
