Something of that sort, you might want to guess is what is found in a play school. This picture, and many more paintings have been done at a POSCO court in Jangaon. This is the sitting area for children and their parents who may have to visit the court in identifying the accused.
“A child should feel comfortable, not be under stress or find the atmosphere scary. Children should be at ease when they come to the place and understand that they are cared for and loved,” an official of the court told.
For this reason, the new POSCO court that is coming up in Jangaon will have the special facility for children. They will have separate seating in a room and will not come face to face with the accused. The judicial staff will themselves go to the room where the child is made to sit and ask questions in a friendly and concerned manner.
On another side of the wall are cartoon characters, a rainbow, animals playing – on the whole creating a happy atmosphere. There is a girl on a swing at a tree on another wall and a giant wheel, train and fairyland on another wall.
Telangana High Court portfolio judge P Naveen Rao on Friday visited the place and inspected the arrangements being made at the court hall, the entry point for the accused and more particularly the room where the children would be brought. The court hall is being prepared in an existing building but is being renovated to given it a child-friendly appearance.
An amount of ₹12 lakh is being spent for the civil works and another Rs 10 lakh for the furniture, wooden furniture and getting the paintings done. District collector Ch Sivalingaiah also met the High Court portfolio judge Naveen Rao.
In Medak district, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Posco) court was inaugurated iin July this year. The first Posco court came up in Hyderabad in 2016 at the Nampally criminal courts. According to official sources, the plan of the government is to set up child-friendly courts in which the atmosphere will keep children at ease and not be intimidating to them.
