191 candidates are in fray in the first phase of
Assembly Elections in West Bengal. Additional CEO Sanjay Basu told
reporters in Kolkata that 63 candidates are contesting in Purulia, 35 in
West Medinipur and 34 in Jhargram districts, while 33 candidates are in
fray from East Medinipur and 26 from Bankura districts. 30 seats across
five districts will go to polls on 27th of this month.
On the other hand, polling will be held in 30 seats on 1st of April for
the second phase. In this phase, 172 candidates will be contesting from 4
districts. 58 candidates are from East Medinipur while 53 are from
Bankura. 42 candidates will be contesting from West Medinipur district
and 19 candidates are in fray from South 24 Parganas.
Meanwhile, filing of nominations for the
third phase of elections ends today. 78 nominations were submitted till
yesterday for this phase. 31 assembly constituencies spread over 3
districts will go to polls in this phase on the 6th of April.
