Following the outbreak of bird flu in some states,
Andhra Pradesh government has sounded warning asking the animal
husbandry officials to keep a close watch on migratory birds and poultry
for any symptoms of the disease. The forest authorities are keeping a
close watch on migratory birds in all protected areas across the state
where birds congregate in large numbers.
A close observation is done at the bird sanctuaries like Kolleru,
Coringa, Telineelapuram, Telukunchi, Nelapattu, Pulikat, Uppalapadu
and other places in Andhra Pradesh. The State Government is monitoring
the situation as Avian Influenza spreads fast, forest authorities have
already directed all the Divisional level forest Officers to keep a
close watch on bird sanctuaries.
However, Dr. Amarendra Kumar, Director, Department of Animal Husbandry,
clarified that there is no bird flu in Andhra Pradesh and people need
not worry. Only a few States like Kerala, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh
and Madhya Pradesh have bird flu cases and so far no cases of bird flu
have been reported anywhere in AP, he said.
Review meetings with Officials of the
Department of Animal Husbandry across the Districts in the State have
been conducted and the poultry industry has also been put on high to
report any cases of bird flu, he added.
