A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court against the Bar Council of Delhi's decision asking law students/ graduates willing to enroll to mandatorily attach Aadhaar, Voter ID with a Delhi/ NCR address.
A law graduate from Delhi University and a Bihar resident has challenged the recent notification whereby it was resolved that Law Graduates who are willing to apply with the BCD are required to attach along with their respective Enrollment Application and other documents, copies of Aadhar Card and Voting ID Cards of Delhi/ NCR.
The decision has been challenged on the ground of being arbitrary and discriminatory. The petitioner has argued that it discriminates against law graduates who are from far away areas and come to practice law in the national capital in hopes of better prospects and that it creates an arbitrary classification between law graduates based on their residential address, which is a violation of Article 14.
Contending that the impugned notification is completely silent on its objectives and lacks intelligible differentia.
