The Maharashtra Government informed the Bombay High Court that it shall allot 30.16 acres of land in Bandra for the construction of the new building for the High Court.
A formal Government Resolution (GR) to that effect will be issued shortly. The Court was further told that the land will be east Bandra and will have Central Tribunals, Chambers for Lawyers (8.9 acres) along with the High Court building (21 acres) that will have judge's quarters.
It has been stated a section of the land will be commercially developed for Lawyers' Chambers revenue generated will go to the government.
A Division Bench Acting Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice Sandeep Marne were hearing a petition seeking contempt action against the State government for non-compliance with a 2019 High Court order on the land allotment.
The Court was informed that a memorandum has been signed with the public works department to that effect which was earlier reserved for government employee housing but has now been given up for building a new high court complex.
