Advocates from the Borivli Court met the senior inspector and the zonal deputy commissioner of police after a police officer allegedly slapped a practising lawyer four times at Kandivli police station on Tuesday.
The incident took place over a misunderstanding wherein the lawyer Prithvi Jhala, while entering the police officer's cabin allegedly accidentally pushed officer Hemant Gite, who took offence to it. “It was an accidental push while I was rushing inside the cabin. Gite was in plain clothes and I even apologized.
But on learning that I am a lawyer he got annoyed and slapped me four times. I immediately called my colleague lawyer Imam Nanubhai who practices in the court,” said Jhala. He went to the police station after his friend, whose sister had been arrested in a road accident case, called him for help. A departmental internal inquiry has been initiated against assistant inspector Gite.
