On Wednesday, the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud asked the Advocates to sincerely follow the Registry's guidelines on typing out High Court judgments as it is difficult for the Judges to read copies with watermark.
When a Lawyer, appeaing before the Supreme Court showed reservation to the Registry asking him to submit the judgments after removing the watermark and typing them out, the CJI asserted that Registry's directive be complied with.
He in turn mentioned the difficulties faced by the Judges in reading the ones with watermarks. He stated that though the issue has been mentioned before the High Courts, an administrative order cannot be issued in this regard and therefore, they seek the cooperation of the Advocates.
"Comply with the objection. Type it out. We want to read the judgments and we cannot read with a watermark. We cannot read with magnifying glasses. We have told the High Courts, but we cannot issue administrative directions to them. You have to cooperate with us," he said.
CJI DY Chandrachud had flagged the issue previously on multiple occasions, even before assuming the office of the Chief Justice.
