On Tuesday, Chief Justice of Kenya Martha K. Koome attended Constitutional Bench hearing at Supreme Court in the matter of Shiva Sena.
CJI DY Chandrachud welcomed her and the whole delegation from Kenyan Supreme Court.
"We are very honoured to have in our midst Chief Justice Martha Koome, Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Kenya. Not the least of her achievements is that she is the first woman chief justice of the country", CJI DY Chandrachud said in her honour.
Mentioning that she was part of the bench that decided LGBTQ+ Rights in Kenya, he highlighted some of her alluring work
"She is a judge of high erudition, who has written extensively including on issues pertaining to constitutional law in India. She recently wrote a judgment on the extent to which basic structure doctrine will apply in Kenya", the CJI said.
He also apprised the court that the Chief Justice has been given an objective briefing of the matter.
The Counsels in the matter, Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal and Mahesh Jethmalani also extended a welcome to her.
