he bench further added that "When there is a trial of case significant case, then the State should handle the trial in a manner that the case is significant and not just end it job by filing of Chargesheet and leave it at the mercy of prosecution. The trial should not languish forever".

"What happens when the trial goes on forever is that witnesses turn hostile, recuse, certain cases if I can say bought over amongst other impediments, so State should in such cases should prune the list of witnesses, remove unnecessary witnesses & expedite the trial" Bench added.

On the last date of hearing, SC Bench had asked ASG that, "We cannot countenance the continued detention of a person with trial continuing ad infinitum even if this is a serious economic offence. Completion of investigation is one important stage but inappropriate cases detention can continue beyond that but not for an indeterminate period of time. A period of 17 months of total detention is over in the case of the petitioner."

In the supplementary complaint, the ED has alleged that Anil Mittal, who was the statutory auditor of the group companies, had played a vital role in the diversion of funds from the Amrapali Group to other sham/bogus companies as well as other group of companies having no business relations in the guise of inter-corporate deposits.

ED has alleged Mittal made monetary gains in the form of proceeds of crime and acquired properties using the same.
