The Single Judge Bench of the Orissa High Court, comprising Dr. Justice Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi in the case of Lakshmidhar Das @ Laxmidhar Das & Anr. v. State of Odisha & Ors. has ordered for the de novo investigation in the murder case of RTI activist.
The Petitioner raised its concern as he is unhappy with the shoddy investigation done by the Investigating Officer and prayed for constitution of a Special Investigation Team or else, handing over the investigation of the crime to any impartial agency for independent inquiry into the incident.
The Court expounded that the Pen-Drive attached to this file is opened in Court today and this Court has seen the video clip. It transpires that the police has not given the proper thought to the video clips and the culprits therein.
Therefore, the Court directed that the matter be handed over the Crime Branch for a denovo inquiry regarding the death of son of petitioner and to complete the investigation as early as possible, preferably within a period of three months from the date of taking over.
