Missing Jewellery: Senior Advocate accuses bank of Cheating

Bank of Baroda - Personal Banking, NetBanking, Corporate Banking, NRI Banking Services Online

A Senior Lawyer has accused Bank of Baroda (BoB) officials of criminal breach of trust, cheating & criminal conspiracy after jewellery worth Rs 38 lakh went missing from his mother's locker. Hiren Raval, 59, filed a complaint with the Ellisbridge police against unnamed bank officials.

His complaint says that after he learnt of the revised locker agreement & the new guidelines of the RBI, he sent his friend Iqbal Khedawala to get the necessary process done. It was then that he found that Dena Bank had merged with the Bank of Baroda. His complaint states that he was never informed about his locker being shifted from Dena Bank to BoB.

Raval later couriered the KYC forms & the signed documents to BoB & paid Rs 7,943 as the locker rent & penalty on Dec 8, 2022. On Dec 17, he was informed by the police that the jewellery kept in his locker was missing & that someone had accessed it in an unauthorized manner. The police also told him that the thief had been caught & some jewellery was also recovered from him.

On Dec 19, a bank official named Jagjit Kumar called him up to inform him that since the locker had not been operated for a long time, the bank had kept the belongings in its own locker account from where they went missing.

So, Raval asked the official why he was charged the rent & penalty if his mother's locker had already been accessed by the bank officials without informing him.

He also inquired if the bank had made a list of the belongings in his locker account. Since he failed to receive a satisfactory response, he filed a complaint against BoB officials on Saturday.
