The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) mayoral elections have been postponed, now the Supreme Court will hear the matter on Friday, February 17, 2023, to decide voting rights. In the previous hearing, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor agreed to conduct the elections on February 16. Today, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor told the top Court that it would postpone the elections to a date after February 17, 2023. The Supreme Court bench headed by the Chief Justice of India observed that nominated members cannot vote in the MCD elections. The elections are postponed for the fourth time and are now expected to be conducted after Friday as voting rights will be discussed by the top Court on 7 February 2023. In the earlier meetings of the councilors on January 6, January 24, February 6, and February 16, the MCD elections were not conducted because of the hassle between the AAP and BJP councilors regarding voting rights. There was a ruckus between both parties regarding the alderman’s right to vote and whether nominated members can vote in the elections or not.
