Impossible for the Lok Adalat to take up and dispose of the regular cases with the present arrangements

The Single Judge Bench of the Kerala High Court, comprising Justice V G Arun in the case of Bobby P Kuriakose v State of Kerala & Ors has expounded that with the present arrangements, it will be impossible for the Lok Adalath to take up and dispose of the regular cases and the appeals relating to the floods of 2018.

The Petitioner had filed writ petition for seeking direction of the Court to order the Government to commence sitting in post lunch session and to dispose the case of the petitionr within a time frame, pending disposal of the writ petition.

The Court after considering the affidavit observed that “having gone through the reports submitted by the permanent Lok Adalat, I have no doubts that with the present arrangements, it will be impossible for the Lok Adalath to take up and dispose of the regular cases and the appeals relating to the floods of 2018.”

However, the Court instructed the government pleader that he may bring the concern expressed by this court to the notice of the government, so that appropriate steps to provide requisite staff for the Permanent Lok Adalath, Ernakulam can be taken by the government at the earliest.
