Lawyers across Goa will assemble outside the crime branch on Tuesday morning seeking the arrest & suspension of the Porvorim police personnel involved in the assault on advocate Gajanan Sawant.
President of the Mapusa Advocates Forum Paresh Rao said all advocate forums have petitioned for the arrest & suspension of the police personnel & gave the department till Monday evening. Now, they have decided to hold a peaceful dharna outside the crime branch, Ribandar. Advocate Parag Rao said a common citizen against whom Section 307 is registered would have been in judicial custody. “Why are the police giving so much protection to the main accused & treating him like a high ranking officer,” he said.
He added, “There are attempts to misguide people that it is a advocate vs police fight. He’s a victim who happens to be an advocate".
Vasco Advocates Association (VAA) demanded immediate suspension & arrest of the culprits. “The Mapusa Advocates Association lodged a complaint on December 9, but till date no action has been initiated against the culprits. The police are protecting their own,” said VAA secretary Chetan Palekar.
