Advocates practicing before the Kerala High Court boycotted the Court’s proceedings on Monday in protest against the police’s decision to name as accused 3 advocates who represented Eldose Kunnapillil MLA in the case alleging sexual assault.
The decision was taken at an urgent general body meeting of the Kerala High Court Advocates Association (KHCAA) in the morning. The advocates also conducted a protest march.
Lawyers representing the MLA were named as accused after the rape survivor filed a police complaint claiming that she was physically attacked while attending conciliation talks at the office of the advocates. However, the advocates say the allegation is false & the case was registered after the MLA was granted anticipatory bail by a Court in Thiruvananthapuram. The survivor had also not mentioned about the alleged attack in her statement before a magistrate, they had pointed out.
A few important cases, including those related to the alleged directive of the chancellor to the vice-chancellors of nine universities to resign & the Adani group’s contempt of court plea over providing police protection for the Vizhinjam port site, were shifted to Tuesday due to the boycott.
