HC Bar Association to resume work after assurance by Officials

The Punjab and Haryana HC Bar Association (HCBA), which had been abstaining from work in protest of the raid/searches by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on the office & residence of one of the bar members, has decided to resume work from Friday.

A decision in this regard was taken on Thursday by the bar body after meeting with the officials of the NIA.

 

Santokhwinder Singh Grewal (Nabha), president of the HCBA said a delegation of bar association & the Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana consisting of bar president, secretary & the chairman of state bar council met the senior-most officials of NIA at Delhi.

“The matter in issue was discussed at length. The officials have assured that there will be no breach of privilege of lawyers. We have been assured that there will be a free & fair investigation & there will be no action regarding communication between the lawyer & the client,” said the President while sharing the details of the meeting.

He further said that the aggrieved member of the bar has been briefed about the same. “Therefore, in view of the above said development the work in Punjab & Haryana high court will resume from Friday,” said a release issued by the bar body. 

The bar association & the bar council had been abstaining from attending  Courts in protest of raids by NIA on the legal office & residence of advocate Shally Sharma.
