Supreme Court to take up 300 oldest cases from second week of Oct

General facts to know about Administrative Law - iPleaders

On Wednesday, in a Notice issued, the Supreme Court apprised that it is set take up 300 oldest 'after Notice matters' dating back to as long as 1979.

The Civil Appeal filed in 1979 by the Union of India against Nava Bharat Ferroy Alloys Ltd is the oldest case. The cases were agreed upon by the Apex Court for listening but somehow couldn't reach the stage of listing.

The Circular issued to this regard read:

“Take notice that 300 oldest after notice matters of which list is appended…are likely to be listed before the courts on non-miscellaneous days with effect from Tuesday, October 11, 2022”.

This comes as part of a pattern whereby the newly appointed Chief Justice of India, UU Lalit is focusing on disposal of long-pending and also important matters.

Ever since assuming office, the CJI has been active in making notable changes from altering the listing system to priority listing of constitutional matters and now getting done with the longest standing log of cases.
