[West Bengal SSC Scam] CBI arrests then Advisor (also then Convenor of the Five Member Committee) and then Secretary, of West Bengal Central School Service Commission

 

The Central Bureau of Investigation has today arrested then Advisor (also then Convenor of the Five Member Committee) and then Secretary, both of West Bengal Central School Service Commission in an on-going investigation of a case related to alleged irregularities in the appointments of Group C staff in various schools across the State of West Bengal. 

CBI had registered the instant case on 20.05.2022 on the orders dated 18.05.2022 of Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta passed in WPA 12270 of 2021 against the five accused and unknown others. It was alleged that the accused extended undue advantage in the matter of giving appointment to the undeserving and unlisted candidates to the posts of Group-C staffs in various schools across the State of West Bengal, in conspiracy with one another. It was further alleged that the accused collected the vacancies of Group-C in an unauthorized manner after expiry of panel on 18.05.2019 in violation of provisions of School Service Commission Rules, 2009 and then issued recommendations of unsuccessful candidates to those vacancies by issuing fictitious memos of the Regional Commissions and using scanned signatures of the Chairpersons of such Regional Commissions in absence of their knowledge. It was also alleged that on the basis of these recommendations, appointment letters were issued bypassing the normal chain of hierarchy and without sending those recommendation letters to the Appointment Section of Board of Secondary Education, West Bengal & without notifying the names of the candidates on the website of Central Commission for verification of testimonials, and for collection of appointment letters on the notified date. Thus, the deserving genuine candidates were debarred from getting the said regular salaried jobs even after expiry of panel.

Both the arrested accused will be produced before the Competent Court.
