Over 30,000 Advocates wore black badges & abstained from work to protest against hike in Court Fee

 

On Monday, over 30,000 Advocates of Jharkhand wore black badges & abstained from work to protest against the hike in Court fee by the Govt.

Jharkhand State Bar Council (JSBC) chairman JSBC Rajindra Krishna said, “The steep hike in court fee would adversely impact the common man who may not be able to bear the cost of litigation to fight for their rights. They would stop approaching the courts.”

The Jharkhand State Bar Council believes that the fee should not be increased manifold. For example, the maximum court fee in cases related to property dispute has now increased to Rs 3,00,000 as againt Rs 50,000 earlier, he added.

The Chairman said he would meet chief secretary Sukhdev Singh while district bar association members would meet their local MLAs & sensitise them on the issue.

Around 4,500 members of the Advocates’ Association of Jharkhand High Court, stayed away from work. A member, Dheeraj Kumar, said, “The courts did function but the advocates did not take part.”

 

Meanwhile, the Lawyers of the Ranchi District Bar Association (RDBA) marched to Albert Ekka Chowk. RDBA secretary Sanjay Vidrohi said the government has increased the fee by four to six times in several cases. “If people are compelled to go for out-of-court settlement, the weaker section will be at a disadvantage. It may promote lawlessness.”
