Retired Judge seeks contempt proceedings against Advocate

On Tuesday, the High Court of Delhi asked a retired District Court Judge to place on record relevant material, including the CCTV footage, relating to the conduct of a lawyer post conviction.

In her petition, former Judge Sujata Kohli has urged the High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against Lawyer Rajiv Khosla for interfering with the administration of justice after he was convicted in a case of assault, dating back to 1994 when Kohli was a lawyer. She argued that no convict should be allowed to browbeat & bully the Court.

“We are as concerned as anybody else with respect to how court proceedings have to be conducted & how decorum has to be maintained. If you place the CCTV footage on record, it will go a long way. We view contempt very seriously,” a bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul & Justice Anup J Bhambhani told Kohli giving her a week’s time to gather the record, in order to enable the Court to form a prima facie opinion in the contempt case.

On Oct 29, 2021, a Trial Court had convicted Delhi High Court Bar Association's (DHCBA) ex-president Rajiv Khosla in the assault case.
