Court asks Honey Singh to provide voice sample at Police station

Nagpur/District Court in India | Official Website of District Court of India

The Sessions Court, Nagpur has directed popular rapper Yo-Yo Honey Singh to remain present at Pachpaoli police station between Feb 4 & 11 to provide his voice sample related to offences lodged against him for alleged obscene songs on social networking sites.

However, Additional Sessions Judge SASM Ali permitted him to travel to Dubai for entertainment shows till Feb 4.

The Court’s directives came while hearing an application by Hirdesh alias Honey Singh, for relaxation of conditions imposed on him for travelling abroad by the Sessions Court, before granting him anticipatory bail on Oct 27, 2015. He sought permission to travel to Dubai contending that he had not breached conditions of bail & was ready to comply with all the terms & conditions that will be imposed by the Court.

The plea was opposed by the investigating officer arguing that the rapper was not cooperating in the probe. As per Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) orders of Jan 10, Singh had been asked to appear at the police station on Jan 25, but he informed his inability through email.

“It appears that the applicant is bona fide seeking permission to travel abroad for his business engagement on three different dates. Considering the fact that his presence is required by the police to record his voice sample, he has shown his bona fide by filing pursis for providing his voice samples. Under these reasons, I see no legal impediment to grant permission to him by imposing certain conditions,” the Judge said before disposing of Honey Singh’s plea.

The police complaint against the rapper was lodged by Anandpal Singh Gurnam Singh Jabbal through counsel Raspal Singh Renu. When no cognisance of his FIR was taken, the complainant moved the police commissioner with the same contentions. But he too failed to initiate action, prompting Jabbal to file a case before the JMFC under Section 156 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Subsequently, Pachpaoli police booked him under various sections of IPC. Singh then moved higher judiciary for quashing this FIR.
