On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha passed the High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2021.
The Bill seeks amendment to:
(i) the High Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1954, and
(ii) the Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1958.
The bill further proposes to insert an explanation in sections 17B of the HC Judges Act and 16B of the Supreme Court Judges Act to clarify the government’s objective.
These Acts regulate the salaries and conditions of service of the judges of High Courts and the Supreme Court of India.
Yesterday, Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced the Bill for discussion and debate.
