The Principal Bench of Madras High Court has started functioning of Court via physical hearing as well as hybrid mode. This view has been taken by the Court by considering the decline in cases of Covid in the State.
Madras High Court has issued the following directions regarding the functioning of the Principal Seat of Madras High Court w.e.f. 19.07.2021.
Final Hearing Cases will be heard in physical/virtual/hybrid mode. The appearance of Advocates, whose cases are listed, shall not exceed 6 in number at a time, in case of small Court Halls; and 8 in number at a time, in case of big Court Halls, subject to strict adherence to COVID-19 safety protocol, such as wearing of a mask, maintaining social distancing, etc.
Except for final hearing cases, other matters will be heard in the Virtual / Hybrid mode with State and Central Government counsel and Standing Counsel for the Public Sector Undertakings being permitted to appear in physical mode. At all times, the COVID-19 safety protocol has to be maintained.
Recording
of evidence before the Master / Additional Master Courts is permitted
and the deponents for tendering evidence alone are permitted entry into
the High Court premises.
The Registry will function with 100% of Staff Members, by strictly
observing aforesaid COVID-19 safety protocol. However, the Registrar
General, depending upon the prevailing situation, may dispense with the
attendance of -any staff not immediately necessary.
With regard to the Madurai Bench, a separate notification will be issued by the Additional Registrar General, Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, Madurai, as per the directions of the Hon'ble Administrative Judge.
