No proposal received from Lakshadweep Administration to transfer the legal jurisdiction from Kerala High Court to Karnataka High Court – Centre informs Lok Sabha

  

The Central Government on Wednesday announced in the Parliament that it had not received any proposal from the Lakshadweep Administration, pertaining to transferring its legal jurisdiction from Kerala High Court to the Karnataka High Court.

The Minister for Law & Justice Mr. Kiren Rijiju informed so while responding to certain questions asked by Members of Parliament Anto Antony, Rajmohan Unnithan, and Hibi Eden in Lok Sabha.

Mr. Kiren Rijiju replied that “At present, there is no proposal received from Lakshadweep Administration to transfer the legal jurisdiction from Kerala High Court to Karnataka High Court.”

In June, the Press Trust of India reported that the Lakshadweep administration had mooted a proposal to move the Union Territory from the jurisdiction of the Kerala High Court to that of the Karnataka High Court. However, the reports were denied by the Lakshadweep district collector S Askar Ali.

The news report came at a time when several petitioners have moved the Kerala High Court against the so-called reforms that the administrator Praful Khoda Patel had proposed.
