The Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association has unanimously resolves to boycott all official functions which may be organised by the High Court of Gujarat such as Full Court reference, oath ceremony of the Hon'ble Chief Justice or any Hon'ble Judges except those personally invited by the judge designate and Lok Adalats.
The notification issued by the Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association states that “It is with great pains that the members of the Bar have to pass such a resolution.”
It notes with disgust that despite frantic requests and appeals by the lawyers who are faced with immense difficulty and hardship and notwithstanding the decline in COVID-19 cases (the figure has not crossed 20 in the last fortnight and in the last 10 days in the city of Ahmedabad, cases reported have been under 10), more particularly when the government has permitted the opening of all activities including malls and gymnasiums.
The Bar Association also opined that if the request to start the physical functioning of the High Court from 28.07.202 is acceded , the resolution shall automatically cease to operate.
The Bar also accepted the suggestion by Yatin Soni, ld. Advocate and seconded by Jayesh Kotecha, Id. Advocate and further resolved to hold a peaceful dharna outside Gate no. 2 of the High Court on Monday in keeping with the norms of social distancing, wearing of mask and other SOP s prescribed by the State of Gujarat.
