Jammu & Kashmir has got 2 separate benches of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), with the Cabinet on Wednesday approving the creation of 2 posts of judicial members & 2 posts of administrative members for the benches at Jammu & Srinagar.
These will serve all employees of the UTs of Jammu & Kashmir & Ladakh.
CAT has been functioning since 1985 as an effective mechanism for redressal of disputes arising out of service matters of government employees. It currently has seventeen benches, apart from the newly established benches at Jammu & Srinagar, with some of the benches catering to multiple states/UTs.
After the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu & Kashmir & Ladakh became two separate Union Territories. As such the disputes pertaining to service matters of the J&K Govt & Ladakh Govt employees are now to be adjudicated by CAT.
Around 13,000 cases have been transferred to CAT from the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir & the department of expenditure has already approved the proposal for creation of posts & support staff. An annual expenditure of around Rs 1.03 crore has been estimated on the two new CAT benches in J&K.
Sources said the posts of judicial members & administrative members at Jammu & Srinagar benches will be filled up soon to make them functional. "These will provide speedy & affordable justice to the employees of the UTs of J&K & Ladakh.
Welcoming the two new CAT benches for J&K & Ladakh, minister of
state for personnel Jitendra Singh on Wednesday took to Twitter to thank
Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Cabinet decision, saying that
"this will be a huge relief & convenience for the government
