Various parties, including RJD, the main opposition party, on Wednesday sought the siege of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the dismissal of the minister, who had been accused of corruption in the Bihar government, from JDU quota to Dr. Mevalal Chaudhary as Education Minister. He was also suspended from the party.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav asked whether Chaudhary, who was accused of appointing assistant professor as education minister, has been given the reward for corruption and open leeway to rob him?
Tejashwi Yadav alleged in the tweet, "In many cases of corruption, the fugitive accused has been made the education minister."
Taking a dig at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he said, "For the sake of the chair, the Chief Minister will continue the discourse on crime, corruption and communalism."
Significantly, newly elected JDU MLA Dr. Mevalal Chaudhary has won from Tarapur Assembly seat in the state. He has been included in the Nitish Kumar-led cabinet for the first time.
Before entering politics, Mevalal was the Vice Chancellor of Bhagalpur Agricultural University. Chaudhary (67) was suspended from the Nitish Kumar-led JDU in 2017 in view of allegations of irregularities in the appointment of Assistant Professor and the registration of an FIR.
The case relates to alleged irregularities in the appointment of Assistant Professors and Junior Scientists in the year 2012. The BJP, which was in opposition at that time, also raised the issue against Chaudhary. Then there was a grand coalition government in the state.
Tejashwi Yadav also quipped that no Muslim was made a minister in the Nitish cabinet. He said that none of the minority communities were made ministers. Whereas in many cases of corruption, the fugitive accused was made the education minister.
Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad tweeted that while Tejashwi was committed to giving 10 lakh jobs in the first cabinet with the first pen, Nitish made Mewalaal, who scam the appointment in the first cabinet, a minister and made it his priority.
The RJD leader questioned whether corruption was made by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by appointing Assistant Professor and making Mevalal Chaudhary an Education Minister under sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code in serious cases of corruption in building construction. Is given the reward of doing and open rebate to rob?
He said, 'Look at the irony, the BJP who were searching for Mevalal till yesterday, have taken silence when they get dry fruits today.'
It is noteworthy that Lalu Prasad is currently in jail and his Twitter handle is operated by his office in consultation with the family.
CPI-ML state secretary Kunal said that on the first day of the assembly session, the MLAs of his party will lodge a protest. The CPI-Male Assembly has 12 MLAs.
He said, 'We want Nitish Kumar to sack him (Chaudhary)'.
Kunal said that Chaudhary's appointment as Education Minister is an insult to the people of Bihar.
Congress Legislative Council Premchandra Mishra said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has tarnished his own image by making a person like Mevalal Chaudhary as education minister.
On the other hand, there was no response from the minister in this regard. At the same time, his personal assistant Abhishek Kumar said that only the court will decide whether he is guilty or not.
