On Monday, the Supreme Court extended the interim protection from arrest granted to Congress's National Spokesperson Pawan Khera in case against him for making personal remark against PM Modi in background of business tycoon Gautam Adani and Hindenburg developments.
A three-judge bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala asked the States to file their respective responses by Friday, while extending interim bail.
"List on Friday. Counter to be filed by State of Assam and UP. Ad interim protection granted to extend till next date of hearing," the court ordered.
Uttar Pradesh and Assam Police has booked Khera for controversial remarks against PM Modi for offences under Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth etc.) and Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Assam Police barred him from boarding flight from Delhi Airport in attempt to make arrest, taking action in one of the FIR. The same was opposed by Khera in Supreme Court immediately after his arrest. The Top Court has granted him interim protection.
