Maha Political Crisis: How Governor can enter political sphere? asks SC

 

On Wedensday, asking as to how a Governor can comment on political alliances and government formation in the State, the Supreme Court has taken exception to Maharashtra Governor's submissions to the Court.

The Constitution Bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud also comprising of Justice MR Shah, Justice Krishna Murari, Justice Hima Kohli, Justice PS Narasimha was hearing arguements in the case pertaining to political turmoil that happend last year, when Shiv Sena MP Eknath Shinde parted turned rebel and swayed most of the others to be onn his side, alienating the official heads.

It was when Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for the Governor submitted that present is the era of the political alliance and that the Thackeray camp had gone back on a pre-poll alliance between Shiv Sena and BJP in 2019.

At this juncture, the CJI intervened to register astonishment on such a submission being advanced from Governor's side.

"How can Governor be heard to say all this? On the formation of government, how can the Governor say this? We are only saying Governor should not enter political (arena)..." the CJI said.
