On Friday, the Delhi High Court approved of the request by Delhi Police seeking urgent listing of petition challenging discharging of the JNU Students Sharjeel Imam, Safoora Zargar, Asif Iqbal Tanha and eight others in the Jamia Violence Case.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad was apprised by the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that the Registry had raised objection on FIR in the matter being in Hindi.
The Bench has listed the matter for 13th February 2023.
The District Court of Saket had recently dischraged the students in the Jamia violence case of 2019. ASJ Arul Verma had strongly criticised the Delhi Police and had made some strong observations alleging the Police of filing "ill-conceived" chargesheet, "devoid of irrefragable evidence".
He accused them of picking the students as 'scapegoats' as they failed to rope the actual perpetrators.The students clashed with the Police after announcing 'march' to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
