The Central Government has notifed the appointment of Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, Judge of the Gauhati High Court as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The notification issued by Law Ministry enatils that "In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, Judge of the Gauhati High Court to be Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."
Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh assumed charge as a Judge, Gauhati High Court on 11.10.2018. Presently, Executive Chairman of the Assam State Legal Services Authority and Central Authority member of National Legal Services Authority and a member of the Governing Body of National Judicial Academy, Bhopal.
He was ppointed to perform the duties of the office of Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court w.e.f. 21.09.2020 to 09.01.2021 and from 09.05.2022 to 22.06.2022.
