Supreme Court seeks Centre’s response on Ram Setu National Heritage monument plea

 

 

 The Supreme Court said to take up the plea filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy related to the declaration of Ram Setu as a national heritage monument till the second week of February. In 2007, Dr. Subramanian Swammy filed a plea against the Sethu Samundram Ship Channel project and reminded the Supreme Court that the Centre has not filed its counter-affidavit in the matter. He further told that “Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had said the counter will be filed by December 12. But it has not been filed yet. Earlier, they said it’s ready.”  In response to this, the Solicitor General replied that the matter is under consideration and discussions are going on further urging the court to address the matter in the first week of February. Swamy further urged the top court, “He said it is already prepared. Now he is saying it is under preparation. May I suggest the cabinet Secretary be summoned. It s a cabinet matter.” To which, the Supreme Court refused and said that “we’ll keep it in the first week of February for filing and keep it in second week of February.”
