Lawyers to continue protests against the move to transfer 2 High Court Judges

AP High Court Recruitment 2021: Online application for direct recruitment of 55 civil judges open at hc.ap.nic.in-India News , Firstpost

The Andhra Pradesh High Court is witnessing unprecedented protests from advocates over the proposal of the transfer of two judges.

Though the intensity of protests has been lowered, the lawyers are on a sustained agitation by holding lunch hour demonstrations every day, demanding the Supreme Court collegium to withdraw the recommendation of transfer of judges. This is the longest protest by advocates in the Andhra Pradesh High Court since its inception.

The SC Collegium has recommended the Union Govt for the transfer of Justice D Ramesh to Allahabad high court & Justice Battu Devanand to Madras high court on November 24. Protests broke out on the very next day as angry advocates boycotted the courts for two days on Friday, Nov 25 & Monday, Nov 28.

The Lawyers formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) & announced a plan of action to continue their protests in various forms. They have given representation to Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, governor Bishwa Bhushan Harichandan. They have sent letters to Chief Justice of India, President of India & the Prime Minister requesting to take back the decision to transfer the judges from the AP high court.

A majority of High Court Advocates say false complaints were sent to Supreme Court collegium on the two judges as they were critical in holding the officials responsible.

Jada Sravan Kumar, convenor, advocates’ JAC, said that both judges are known for their integrity. “We believe that they were not transferred for administrative convenience but because of political pressures & false complaints,” he said.

Y Koteswara Rao, another convenor of JAC, said: “It gives a wrong message to other judges also that if you are critical against ruling dispensation, you will get transferred. This is not good for judiciary as an institution & that is the reason why we have been demanding the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision,” he said.

The delay in taking the decision on transfer of judges by the Centre also gives hopes to the protesting advocates to continue their agitations. The JAC announced that they will continue their protests till the decision is withdrawn.
