Gujarat Elections 2022: AAP Candidate gets six months in Jail

On Wednesday, a Local Court in Bharuch convicted AAP candidate from Ankleshwar, Ankur Patel, in a cheque bounce case & sentenced him to 6 months imprisonment.

A cheque of Rs 2 lakh issued by Patel in Feb 2021 was returned after which the complainant Salim Vadia approached the Court.

The court convicted Patel under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

“My client is demanding a total of Rs eight lakh lent to Patel in the past. Patel had issued two cheques of Rs five lakh & Rs two lakh to my client. Both cheques were returned last year,” his lawyer IG Baba Saiyed told the news agency.

Saiyed said, “Due to some technical reason, we could not challenge the return of the Rs 5 lakh cheque, but Rs two lakh cheque bounce was fit to be challenged under NI Act. Today, the court convicted him, & since he was absent, he was awarded punishment as well".

Vadia, who deals in used vehicles, came in touch with Patel, a fuel pump owner, a few years ago & developed good terms.
