Wife files RTI after Hubby refuses to share his Salary details

Wife Files RTI To Find Out Husband's Salary Package After He Refuses To Disclose Them To

Following a marital dispute, a Man refused to share his gross income with his wife.

So, the wife resorted to getting help from the authorities, as she used an RTI to find out.

According to the news agency, Sanju Gupta filed an RTI to learn her husband’s gross income & taxable income for the FY 2018-19 & FY 2019-20.

As her husband didn't consent to such an inquiry, her request was initially denied by The Central Public Information Officer (CPIO), the Income Tax Department office of the Income Tax Officer, Bareilly.

But not one to back down, Sanju went ahead & went to the First Appellate Authority (FAA), where she filed an appeal to find out the details of her hubby’s income.

Unsurprisingly, the FAA upheld the CPIO’s initial order, following which she filed an appeal with the Central Information Commission (CIC).

However, after going through some past orders & judgements of the Apex Court & High Courts, on Sept 19, 2022, the CIC instructed the CPIO to furnish Sanju with the general details of her husband’s net taxable income/gross income present with them.

Details regarding the same available with the public authority within 15 days from the date of receipt were made accessible to her.

While Sanju may not have gotten exactly what she had set out to find out, she still managed to get enough details regarding her husband’s salary without his consent. & that is frankly baffling.
