[Breaking]: CJI Ramana led SC Bench refers 'Freebies' matter to 3-Judge Bench- says Extensive Hearing Required

 

On Friday, noting that the matter requires 'extensive hearing', the CJI NV Ramana led Supreme Court Bench referred the much talked about political matter on 'Freebies' to a 3-Judge Bench.

CJI had previoulsy opined that Justice DY Chandrachud could settle the matter as he earlier had adjudicated on similar issue.

The Court also suggested constitution of an Expert Body to look into freebies offered by political parties to voters and referred the issue to a three-judge bench.

 "The issues raised by parties require an extensive hearing. Certain preliminary hearings need to be determined, such as what is the scope of judicial intervention, whether the appointment of the expert body by court serve any purpose," the Bench said.
