'Rape Victim', 3 Lawyers arrested for Extortion and Fake Rape Case

 

On Wednesday, a 28-year-old woman & her 3 lawyers have been arrested for allegedly extorting Rs 5 lakh from a 20-year-old man & by framing him in a "fake" rape case in Agra.

The accused have been sent to judicial custody, said Police.

On June 24, the accused woman had filed a police complaint alleging that her acquaintance, Rahul Sikarvar (20), had invited her to celebrate his birthday at a hotel, where he mixed some intoxicant in her cold drink & then raped her.

 

The "rape victim" also claimed that Rahul had recorded a video & threatened to make it public if she told anyone about the incident.

Based on f her complaint, police registered an FIR under various sections of the , Indian Penel Code ,including 376 (rape), at Haiparvat police station against the man. During the investigation, it came to light that the rape complaint was fake, said police. The woman & her 3 lawyers - Jitendra Rajput, Nishant Kumar and Shekhar Pratap Singh -- had conspired to extort Rs 5 lakh from Rahul, Police alleged. 

Two other lawyers, including Rahul's lawyer Avnish Vaishya, involved in the case are on the run, said Police. According to police, the woman was planning to keep Rs 2 lakh for herself & distribute the rest to her lawyers. Police recovered Rs 3.75 lakh from their possession, while the rest was spent by the accused, said police.

Arvind Kumar, the station house officer of Hariparwat police station, said the accused have been booked under sections 195 (giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure conviction of offence punishable with imprisonment for life or imprisonment), 384 (extortion), 385 (putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion) & 420  (cheating) of IPC.
