Man Marries Multiple Times without Divorcing Disabled Wife, HC denies Bail to Man's Father

 

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had denied anticipatory bail to father of a man for allegedly acting in connivance with his son who solemnized various marriages without getting divorce from his disabled wife.

The single-judge bench of Justice Jasjit Singh Bedi held that in view of the seriousness of the allegation and to unravel the truth, the custodial interrogation of the petitioner is necessary.

The Counsel had contended that the petitioner has been seen in photographs at different weddings of his son and was signatory to various documents of marriage.

He averred that the petitioner being the father was an equal partner to the offence committed by his son that the mental cruelty meted out to the complainant's sister and her children at the instance of both of them and not providing any emotional or financial security itself is sufficient to deny him the concession of bail.

The Court dismissed the application with observation: 

"The petitioner is a signatory to various documents which show that he was aware of the multiple marriages of his son. Apart from that fact, there are photographs of the petitioner at the different marriages of his son with different ladies."
