On Friday, one more Judge of the Punjab and Haryana HC recused himself from hearing the bail petition filed by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia. It is for the second time that a HC Judge has refused to hear the case.

When the matter came up for hearing before a division bench comprising Justice Ramachandra Rao and Justice Anoop Chitkara of the High Court on Friday, Justice Anoop Chitkara recused himself from hearing the matter.

The division bench ordered, Be placed before some other Bench in which one of us i.e. Anoop Chitkara, J., is not a member, after obtaining appropriate orders from the Chief Justice".

Now, the matter would go to the Chief Justice who will send the matter to the appropriate bench for hearing.

Earlier on July 4, Justice Augustine George Masih of the High Court had recused himself from hearing the case.

On May 31, the division bench headed by Justice Masih reserved its order after hearing all the parties in the case.

However, after one month, the Judge had recused himself from the matter.

In his plea Majithia had sought directions to be released on bail. He is currently behind bars & lodged in Patiala central jail. Majithia was booked on December 20 under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act at the state crime branch, Mohali.
